Oh la la les culottes.

31 Mar 2014

After some serious soulsearching I have come to the conclusion that not only I want to chop off most of my hair, I would also like my bottoms to be about 5 inches shorter. Don't you agree with me that seriously cropped wide-legged pants a.k.a. culottes are the pinnacle of style as of late?

Culottes

Well, agree with me or don't, but I sure as hell am totally in luuuuuurrve!

Chop-chop!

28 Mar 2014

Dear friends, it's confession time: me and my hair are in rut. Years of wearing the same boring knot have left their marks on our relationship. It's sad but true, the spark is just gone. And it's not as if I didn't try! I worked some braids and hairtwists into our daily life, even introduced a mid-parting for a while, but nothing seems to work. Dearest hair, I still love you, but I think it's time to say goodbye.

And if you think by that I mean I'm going bald, you must be completely coo-koo, haha! Non non, mes chéries, I was merely saying the above as a matter of speech. I do mean, however that I intend to chop off a big part of my hair. Following the stylish example of the ladies below.

What do ya reckon, will it suit me?

Beetroots with goat cheese and risotto for lazy people

26 Mar 2014

Beetroot

Lookin' good isn't it? Well, I ain't gonna lie, it was bloody beetrootelicious! And on top of that, probably one of the easiest things I've ever made. Ah, ain't life grand sometimes?

What you need for 2:

- 3-4 bootroots
- 4 tblsp of olive oil
- a handfull of hazelnuts
- a handfull of cranberries
- 1 cup of brown rice
- 3 cups of water
- 1 cube of concentrated broth
- 1 goat cheese
- pepper
- salt
- 1 tblsp of soy sauce
- 1 tblsp of vinegar (I used champagne vinigar which is quite mild, so if you use another one maybe try 1/2 tblsp)
- 1 tsp of honey
- a small hand of chopped parsley

Preheat your over to 170°C. Wash your beetroots, rub them with olive oil and pack them in tinfoil. Put them in the oven for at least 1h30 (depending on the size of the beetroots, it might to a little a longer till they're done).

Put the rice in a pan, together with the water and the cube and let it boil for about half an hour, until the water is all gone (it should still be a little sticky, though). Make sure to put the lid on the pan and stirr occasionally.

Chop the walnuts and cut the cheese in slices.

In a cup mix two tblsp of olive oil with the vinegar, the soy sauce, the honey and some pepper and salt.

When you can easily stick a fork into the beetroots, they're ready to come out of the oven. You can now peel the skin of quite smoothly. Be careful not to burn or fingers or stain your clothing tough (yes, both of these calamties have happend to me before).

Cut them in slices and put them on a plate, together with the goat cheese. Sprinkle some nuts and cranberries on top and dripple on some of the dressing.

Add a bit of parsley to your rice before serving, et voilà!

Guten appetit!

On Backstreet Boys and baby blue

24 Mar 2014

The Italian folks have a proverb that says 'See Naples and die' - meaning that when you've seen this city, you've seen the best there is to see in the world, and therefore, you might just as well die. Well, my friends, last Saturday I have seen my own personal Naples.

What exactly am I blabbling about, you ask? I'm talking: The Backstreet Boys. All 5 of them. Live on stage in Antwerp.

Surprised much? Well, suck it up, cause BSB is - right next to Joy Division, Eels and The Beatles - one of my all-time favourite bands, and I'm not ashamed to say it! The show was absolutely brillo-pads, might I add. And hence filled with a very inappropriate amount of brainless screaming, hystericaly clapping and jumping up and down on my part. Oh yes siree, me and my gals had quite the time of lives!

But, moving on to a more fashion related topic, I might not be ready to die just yet. You see, before I breathe my last, I would really like to have worn (and preferably also owned) that baby blue Céline Box bag below. According to my paper's weekend supplement it was Georgia May Jagger's last new purchase, and I can't blame her. It's just too perfect in all it's icy cool blueness and everlasting design. Ah, well maybe I'll be able to afford a vintage one in a year or twenty...

As you might have guessed, my blue obsession has shifted to a slighty lighter shade as of late and I am now craving all things baby blue. Want to see more? Check out my pinboard. What are your favourite baby blue pieces? And furthermore, what are your current colour cravings?

Coat-delight

12 Mar 2014

Bonsoir chicas!

As you might have spotted already in Monday's post, momma 's bought herself a brand new coat. And yes, she's aware it's Stella rip-off. But guess what, gals: she couldn't care less. Quite the contrary, I've been wearing this coat's ass off, and wearing it proud, 'cause I simply luuuuurrve it! (And guess what the best part is? It was on sale, so it practically cost me nothing!)

On art and fine weather

10 Mar 2014

Arty

When it comes to discussing whether fashion is art or not, I've always been on the affirmative team. Mind you, synthetic brush stroked Zara tops - however cute and fashionable they may be- are not what I'm talking about right now.

I'm rather refering to the moving perfection of a great Dries Van Noten dress, the disturbing effect of Iris Van  Herpen's vacuum-packed models and all possible cross-pollinations between fashion and the expressive arts that have ever found place in the past (YSL's Mondriaan dress, Belgian fashion house Norine's collaborations with René Magritte or Karl Lagerfeld's art fair at his SS14-show, to just name a few).

Honestly, being a total fashion-addict as yours truly, it seems just natural that one should develop a healthy appetite for the arts along the way. Which is concurrently the reason why I spent part of the warmest 9 March in like, ever, inside the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent. Call me crazy? I see your point. But nevertheless I had the greatest time wandering the majestic halls of this museum, admiring their Géricault exhibition and part of their impressive permanent collection.

Oh, and I spent the afternoon lying in my sunbed, flipping through magazines and sipping cooled water with elderflower syrup. Prooving yet again that I can have  my cake and eat it too!

On bachelorette parties, bikinis and vacations to come

3 Mar 2014

Howdy m'dears!

How was your weekend? My Saturday was dedicated to the bachelorette party of a dear friend of mine. Since she's addicted to Paris, we made her talk french all day (even though she's very bad at it - sorry dear, but you are), while wearing a beret and carrying around a baguette. We also got to make - and eat - des macarons, enjoyed a burger with french fries at Café René and drank a bit too much of le vin. Which lead to me spending my Sunday slightly hung-over on the couch.

Besides napping and lazily reading some magazines, my beau and I also managed to book our summer vacation yesterday. We'd been thinking about Cinque Terre (Italy) as well as Santorini (Greece) for while and in the end we chose for the latter.

Santorini

Now that the decision has been made, I can't wait to feel te sun on my skin, enjoy the spectacular views and eat a  huge bowl of Greek yoghurt with honey and nuts.

Santorini

It's okay, you can admit you're jealous ;).

Santorini

As a side effect, I have now started dreaming of the perfect bathing suit  to prance around in on the lava beach near our hotel. I've currently set my eyes on this one (that would be, if I had an unlimited cash flow), this one and this one.
